How do I zoom out in Sandustry to see more of my factory?
The keys exist and are rebindable. The zoom-out most players want does not exist yet, and the developer says why.
Quick answer
You cannot, yet. Update #1 of 16 August 2026 added rebindable Zoom In and Zoom Out keybindings on the two keys immediately left of Backspace, and states in the same note that zooming out beyond the default view is not yet supported because of rendering engine limitations, and that it is being worked on. The same note states that zooming in currently creates visible pixelation. So the keys let you zoom in and come back to the default view, not past it.
Steps
- Find the two keys immediately left of Backspace on your own keyboard. The developer names them by position and states that the symbols vary by keyboard layout.
- On a standard US layout those two positions are the minus and the equals key. That is a fact about the layout, not something the developer published, so count positions rather than hunt for a symbol.
- Press them to zoom in and to come back out. Zooming out stops at the default view.
- Rebind them if that position is awkward on your layout. The developer states the bindings are rebindable.
- Expect visible pixelation while zoomed in. The developer states this is a current property of the zoom, not a graphics setting you have got wrong.
Requirements / limits
- The ceiling is stated as a rendering engine limitation rather than a design choice, and the developer says it is being worked on. No version and no date are attached.
- The bindings shipped in v0.5.4. Older builds have no documented zoom binding at all.
- No in-game display or camera settings menu is documented by any published source, so there is nowhere else to look for a wider view.
- Update #2 changes none of this. This page was checked against it.
