Does Sandustry have co-op or multiplayer?

No official co-op. One dated developer reply, and one community mod that fills the gap.

Quick answer

Sandustry's Steam categories list it as a single-player game, and there is no official co-op or multiplayer mode. The only developer statement on the subject is a reply posted on 5 February 2025, during the demo period, saying multiplayer would be possible but very scuffed, and that building a reliable network model around this kind of simulation is really hard. Nothing published since updates that, so multiplayer is neither announced nor ruled out. A community Workshop mod, SandTogether, describes four players sharing one world.

Steps

  1. Check the store page's own category list: Sandustry is listed as Single-player, with Steam Workshop as a separate category.
  2. Read the developer's reply in the 2025 multiplayer thread before treating co-op as planned. It is dated 5 February 2025 and predates every current build.
  3. Check the newer Multiplayer thread from 15 August 2026 as well. It has no developer reply.
  4. If you want co-op anyway, open the SandTogether listing on the game's official Workshop hub and read the author's own description and requirements.
  5. Treat that mod as untested here. This site has not installed or run it.

Requirements / limits

  • The developer statement is a reply inside a player thread, not an announcement, and it is roughly eighteen months older than the current build.
  • No source says multiplayer is planned, scheduled or cancelled, so this page says none of those things.
  • SandTogether's four-player shared-world description is the mod author's own claim about the mod, not a statement about the game.
  • Loading any Workshop mod has its own conditions, which are covered on the mods page.

Common mistakes

  • Reading the 2025 reply as a roadmap commitment. It is a hedged answer to a question, with a date attached.
  • Reading the silence on the 2026 thread as a change of position. It means nobody replied.
  • Treating a mod as an official feature because it appears on the game's own Workshop hub.

Still unverified

  • Is multiplayer planned for a later build? Not verifiedThe only developer statement is from February 2025 and describes difficulty rather than intent. A newer thread from 15 August 2026 has no reply.
  • Does SandTogether work on the current build? Not verifiedThe listing states four-player shared-world co-op. This site has not installed or tested it, and no developer statement covers it.
